Agricultural industry has become the engine of Ukrainian economy - minister

The agricultural sector is now the locomotive of Ukrainian economy, for it comprises about forty percent of all Ukraine's exports.

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Oleksiy Pavlenko told professors and students of Kherson State Agrarian University on Friday. The government official is on his working visit to Kherson region, regional Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Now our agricultural sector has become the engine of the economy. Agricultural products make 37 per cent of total Ukrainian exports. Agricultural industry makes up 20 percent of our GDP," said Pavlenko.

According to the minister, "we have a huge potential, and taking into account our calculations and those by foreign experts, we can almost triple our agricultural production without GMO."

He noted that Ukraine can achieve these results by using the advanced modern European technologies.
