Canada opens market for 98% of Ukrainian goods

Ukraine has approached the possibility of free trade with Canada after signing the document on completion of the talks on free trade area for agricultural producers.

The Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry press office reports.

"As soon as the agreement entries into force, the Canadian market will be open for 98% of the Ukrainian production, and, in return, Ukraine will liberalize the market for 80% of Canadian production," the report says.

Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Pavlenko noted that the domestic agricultural sector would get substantial benefits.

"Sunflower oil, sugar, chocolate, confectionery and bakery products will get the most favorable market conditions in Canada. In addition, all above-quota tariffs for dairy products, poultry and eggs will be lifted," the press service notes.

According to experts, the signed document still has to be ratified, which is unlikely to happen before January 1, 2016.
